Khao Sok National Park, Thailand
A 2 DAY GUIDE
During our trip to Thailand, we came to Khao Sok National Park in the Surat Thani Province for two days. We stayed on the Cheow Lan Lake at a resort called the Phutawan Raft House. The lake is surrounded by a large number of limestone mountains and the deep water of the lake and the green algae turn the colour of the water a beautiful emerald green, nothing like we have ever seen before!
DAY 1
We travelled to the Phutawan Raft house, which offers 30 raft houses in two types – capsule houses and glass – wooden houses. We checked into our ‘capsule’, relaxed, and then had lunch. Then as a group, we took a long-tail boat ride to Khao Sam Kloe and then did a long trek through the jungle to a tour of the ‘Pakarang Cave’ (Coral Cave).
The journey there and back was stunning seeing the mountainous landscape and ride through the famous tourist spot “Guilin of Thailand”! The Coral Cave, formed by the dissolution of limestone contains stalagmites and stalactites which looks like coral in the sea which is where the cave gets the name from.
After the trip, we took the long-tail boat back to the Phutawan Raft house. One of the best things we enjoyed was being able to jump off our own terrace into the warm water and have a swim, we had a tropical rainstorm which made the water feel as hot as a bath! They also have canoes which you can take out if you don’t fancy swimming.
Then to finish off the day they served us a magical southern-style dinner on the lake. All the food was fresh and fished from the lake.
DAY 2
At 6 am we took a morning safari on a long-tail boat, just the 4 of us. This was an amazing experience, to watch the mist rise above the lake and to hear the loud gibbons chatting away!
We came back and had breakfast on the lake and then checked out and took a boat ride back to the mainland.
This resort and two-day tour was one of the highlights from our trip to Thailand and we would highly recommend it!
